To write my essay on “American Television Viewing Habits”, I would say it’s not only the American who watches television. People of every country does the same. Once the person is back from office, this is the easiest thing one does to relax.
An article at The Economist summarizes the research of Sarah Pearson, who has spent almost 100,000 hours watching British people watch television. It has been researched that almost 85% of television shows are viewed at the time of the its first broadcast. In a similar National survey (1998), it has been found that at an average American watches 3 hours and 46 minutes of television each day. 98% of U.S house hold has at least one television set at home and 66% of American watch television while having dinner.
These statistics shows that television has great importance in their lives. There are many ill effects of watching television for long hours. It has a bad effect on our eye site. Watching television makes you so addicted to its serials and programs that ones gets no chance for physical exercise and turns fat and obese. Children behave differently after viewing violent acts – become less sensitive to the suffering of others; more fearful of the world around them; and, behave more aggressively towards others.
