How to write my essay about lowering the drinking age to 18.
Jennifer on Feb 17, 2011
We know that turning 18 entails receiving the rights and responsibilities of adulthood to vote, serve on juries, get married, sign contracts, join the military–which includes taking on the responsibilities of life and death–and be prosecuted as adults.
All 50 US states have set their minimum drinking age to 21 although exceptions do exist on a state-by-state basis for consumption at home, under adult supervision, for medical necessity, and other reasons. This is one of the good decision taken by the government.
Till the age of 18, one is still in the process of developing and pursuing their career, simultaneously they are in the stage of physical changes, peer pressure, and new situations and urges. Their alcohol consumption can make them more vulnerable to drug and substance abuse, unplanned and unprotected sex, depression, violence, and other social ill effects. Drinking can also lower their academics performance. A alcohol is actually a depressant. That means it’s a drug that slows down or depresses the brain. Like many drugs, alcohol changes a person’s ability to think, speak, and see things as they really are. A person might lose his or her balance and have trouble walking properly. The person might feel relaxed and happy and later start crying or get in an argument.
Most teenage deaths are the result of crashes caused by alcohol-impaired teenage drivers. No matter what the situation, drinking alcohol under the age of 21 is illegal and it should be for the benefit of both the person and society.
