When I write my essay on the Holocaust, I should start by talking about what the Holocaust it and giving details about it. The Holocaust refers to the persecution and killing of the Jewish people by the Nazis back in 1933. It began when Adolf Hitler rose to power in 1933 and continued on until the end of World War II. The figures estimate that around 11 million people were killed during this time with six million of them being Jewish. This is two-thirds of the entire Jewish population in Europe.

When I write my essay, I should also include a history of the Holocaust. Instead of gibing a blow by blow account of the history of the Holocaust, I am going to focus on the highlights and the main events during this time. On April 1, 1933, the Nazis implemented a boycott on all Jewish businesses in Germany. Over the next few years, there were more anti-Jewish laws that were made. In November, 1938, the Nazis went on to induce violence against Jews in Germany and neighboring Austria. This was coined as “Kristallnacht” or the Night of the Broken Glass. 30,000 Jews were taken and sent to concentration camps. When World War II broke out, Jews were directed to wear a yellow Star of David on their clothes so they would be recognized quickly.

When I write my essay, I can also talk about the root cause of it. Adolf Hitler led the Nazis in the persecution of the Jews during the Holocaust. Hitler started as a soldier in Germany and eventually gained political power through the years. He envisioned a new Germany after the First World War and took over Austria without war. When he was ready to take over Poland, it was the trigger for World War II because people could not just stand there and watch.

When I write m essay, I can talk about the victims of the Holocaust and how this has affected them. I can also talk about some of the more known Jews who were persecuted (such as Anne Frank). I can also list down some of the memorials and museums built in honor of those who died during this period.
