To write my essay on plastic bag, I need to have a clear idea on the effects of these bags on our environment.
Plastic bags can be seen in most of the hands in the market. Go to a shopping mall, your purchased items are packed in plastic bags, your vegetables in plastic bags, gifts plastic bags. What is the reason behind the use of plastic bag, do you have any idea? The reason is that it is cheap to produce, sturdy, plentiful, available in all sizes, designs and color, it is even easy to carry and store. While using it we are not even aware what damage we cause to our environment.

If you look around yourself, you can find plastic bags every where, in your bedroom, drawing room, kitchen, closet, store, office, even flying here and there in the park, dumped in rivers and lakes. The real scene while using plastic bag is that once in the environment, it takes months to hundreds of years for plastic bags to breakdown. As they decompose, tiny toxic bits seep into soils, lakes, rivers, and the oceans. About 100,000 animals such as dolphins, turtles whales, penguins are killed every year due to plastic bags. Many animals ingest plastic bags, mistaking them for food, and therefore die. And worse, the ingested plastic bag remains intact even after the death and decomposition of the animal. Thus, it lies around in the landscape where another victim may ingest it. These plastic bags are non-biodegradable and takes thousands of years to degrade. The other fact is that petroleum is required to manufacture of plastics and the petroleum itself is diminishing. Petroleum is a requirement for running our factories, transport, heating, lighting, and many such important work.

Use of plastic bag should be banned or stopped and other substitute like cloths bag, jute bags can be used. This will reduce the plastic litter and non–biodegradable substance in the environment.
